PlumX Metrics is one of the functionalities available in Scopus that is based on item-level metrics that extend the traditional citation metrics for items primarily indexed in Scopus to ways that measure the interaction between people and research output (articles, book chapters and more) through the following 5 categories:
-
Usage: A way to determine if anyone is reading the articles or otherwise using the research. It looks at the number of times a research output has been viewed, downloaded, linked out, etc.
-
Captures: The number of people who have added the output to their library/briefcase or exported it directly to a bibliographic management tool like Refworks and Mendeley. Indicating that someone wants to come back to the work.
-
Social Media: This category includes the tweets, Facebook likes, etc. that reference the research.
-
Citations: This is a category that contains both traditional citation indexes such as Scopus, as well as citations that help indicate societal impacts such as Clinical or Policy Citations.
- Mentions: Measurement of activities such as news articles or blog posts about research. Mentions is a way to tell that people are truly engaging with the research.
