HSRC

Interlibrary Loans

Summary

Patrons are liable for any overdue fees charged by the lending library. Anyone who does not return ILL materials promptly endangers the HSRC Library’s reputation with other institutions which could result in having our borrowing privileges suspended. If an item is returned more than a month late, it could result in the discontinuation of ILL services.

Patrons take full responsibility for the materials borrowed for them; therefore, if materials are lost or damaged, the patron will be billed at the rate set by the lending library.

Materials not owned by HSRC Library and too new to be available for ILL may be recommended for purchase as part of the HSRC collection.

Borrowing Activity

This service is limited to the HSRC staff. Any other person who wants to use the service should contact their local library, workplace library, or other relevant institution to obtain an Interlibrary Loan service.

Items to request:

  • Photocopies of journal articles, conference papers, chapters of books and books

How long does it take?

  • Materials can take from a few hours to a few days to arrive from the time they are requested depending on the lending library.

What is the request limit?

  • Patrons are limited to 10 outstanding ILL requests at one time. In addition, only 5 requests per patron per day, up to the limit of 10, will be processed.

Document delivery method

  • Article Exchange, a software tool, will be applied as the standard electronic means for the delivery of articles.
  • Fax or mail delivery is acceptable in cases where the requesting or supplying library does not have the necessary facilities to receive or transmit articles electronically.
  • Books will be posted by mail or can be collected by the requesting library.

Loan Period

  • The lending institution determines the loan period for books, microforms, and other non-photocopy items. Renewals are contingent upon the lending institution. Institutions that loan materials reserve the right to recall items at any time for their users.

Returning Borrowed Material

  • ILL materials must be returned by the due date listed on the item’s book strap. Failure to return ILL materials within 30 days of the item’s due date will result in the temporary suspension of ILL privileges until the overdue items are returned.
