Accredited journals

For journals to be accredited it must meet the minimum criteria to be eligible for inclusion in the list of approved journals:

  • The purpose of the journal must be to disseminate research results and the content must support high-level learning, teaching and research in the relevant subject area
  • Articles accepted for publication in the journal must be peer-reviewed
  • The majority of contributions to the journal must be sourced from more than one institution
  • The journal must have an ISBN/ISSN
  • The journal must be published regularly
  • The journal must have an editorial board that includes members drawn from more than one institution and that reflects expertise in the relevant area
  • The journal must be distributed to more than one institution

Accreditation indices

Journals appearing in the following indices are included in the list of internationally accredited journals:

  • Institute of Scientific Information (ISI)
  • The International Bibliography of Social Sciences (IBSS)

Journals appearing in the following indices are included in the list of accredited journals maintained by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET)

  • The DHET (SA) Approved South African Journals
  • Scopus
  • Norwegian list
  • Scielo SA
  • Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ)

Journals appearing in other sources will not be accredited.

All accredited journals are peer-reviewed but not all peer-reviewed journals are accredited!
